University of Technology Sydney

University of Technology Sydney or UTS, is one of Australia’s newest major universities and was founded formally in 1988, although it has a history that dates back to the 1870s. In the late 80s, the Sydney Technical College absorbed two other Sydney-based technical colleges and the University of Technology Sydney was formed.

Limited free parking is available and as well as metered parking however, can be expensive.

Train, Central Station is located within 5 minutes walking distance of the main campus and services all major train lines

Bus, Central Station also houses a large bus interchange that provides transport to all areas of Sydney.

Light Rail, the Metro Light Rail links Central Station with Sydney’s inner west suburbs whilst the CBD and South East Light Rail is expected to commence operations in 2019.

Campus Life

At first glance, it may seem that the layout of UTS’s campus and the lack of open common areas may make it difficult to fully embrace student life. However, in true UTS style, creative problem solving has paved the way for Activate UTS, a successful, non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the student experience. Their website provides great information about their events throughout the year, clubs and collectives and is perfect for connecting with like-minded people.

UTS also has a great sporting program which provides competitive and recreational activities across a range of different facilities. The UTS Haberfield Club is more than just a competitive rowing club, it acts as Activate UTS’ main function centre and provides a cool place for students to hang out on the water.  ActivateRecreation also provides access to the best outdoor adventures all on a student budget.
